I wasn't aware of anyone who think Prot is necessary to an MB. Yobs said that he's tried an alternative (Dwayna's Sorrow) and found it unnecessary/unsatisfactory. I'm not sure what you're picking up on as he certainly hasn't said what you claimed.

I think Dwayna's Sorrow makes a decent and valid build, but it's not an uber-build. The healing from DS is alright but not spectacular. In fact, I think the standard hero MM/MB hybrid is somewhat stronger in most circumstances

Perhaps I misread it. I saw yet another precocious little "well, I use Aegis & PS on my MB hero, just like Sab" post and jumped to the conclusion that it was yet another post that can't distinguish the core of the build from the utility. Guess I was wrong.

I still don't see why people want sorrow on their MM though. In their team yes, but why on their mm as opposed to their team's monk? Typically said monk is already going to have 9-11 points in healing for WoH/Kiss or Gift, why not just slot sorrow in there rather than having a second team member invest in an otherwise pretty ordinary attribute line.

That'd mean you'd have to bring a hero monk if you're H/H'ing.

LOLZ, prot is not a MMs primary job and I don't recall arguing it was. The OP was asking about DS and I gave my opinion of what I have found. If the choice was between DS and Prot in HM, I will go prot. every time. The MM carrying aegis allows the henchy monk and MM to chain it, it also allows me to force cast it just before party aggro to minimise archer spikes which hurt in HM. I can pre prot a sturdy toon and send them in to soak up some nasty spells if there is no enchant removal. Both very useful strategies in HM. These are things I can't do with the henchies copy. I prefer to use the henchy monks if I can as I usually play a cursing necro and bring hero's to synergise and amplify the large potential damage output. All in all it just offers ALOT more flexibility than DS for me. Cudo's to Sab for coming up with the variants.
In NM run whatever, it doesn't really matter. Splinter and ancestors works well if you want all out damage which can be better than the extra defence in certain areas. There are alot better combo's than DS out there if you ask me, simply all I was saying. Basically make use of the large energy pool for whatever you want...for me prot lets me ditch a hero monk for more synergistic damage, something that works for me.
Yobs.

Currently, my Jagged MB is using Feast for the Dead instead of BotM because I'm lazy when I party up with someone for HM Cantha and BotM on 20 minions = death there.
With that skill and Jagged, the army still stays up and Dwayna's Sorrow finds more use. For me it works pretty well.

Dwayna Sorrow, is just some extra healing. Not uber but not exactly crappy either. At the very least they do make cheap cover enchants.

I think the assumption that as long as minions are taking damage, the rest of your party would be taking absolutely 0 damage is definitely an exaggeration. Monsters in HM do go after your monks and often, they dont target the same person or same minion and they have ranged attacks.
